Eye Makeup For Transgender Women And Crossdressers

The most important part of facial feminization is canceling out your beard shadow. But the second most important thing is without a doubt your eye makeup. Without it, you’ll just have a blank canvas. And while blank canvasses can have a certain allure to them, they’re so much better with color.

The Correct Order For Applying Eye Makeup

You should apply your eyeliner first, to avoid smudging your eyeshadow. Then apply your eyeshadow, so that you don’t mess up your mascara while doing so. Last comes the mascara, which is just a quick swipe of the eyelashes. Make sure to keep tissues nearby to correct any smudging or makeup defects.

How To Choose And Use Eyeliner

Why Should I Use Eyeliner?

Eyeliner, like mascara, is a variety of black pigment mixed with chemicals that allow it to adhere to your skin. Sometimes it comes in other colors, and you can achieve some pretty beautiful looks with that. It’s used to outline your eyes and make them pop, drawing more attention to them. In doing so, it feminizes your face. Seeing a pattern yet?

Eyeliner, in both liquid and pencil form.

There are two types of eyeliner, pencil and liquid. I usually use a liquid eyeliner, since it’s easier to do finer lines. If you want thicker lines, you can go for an eyeliner pencil instead. I sometimes use an eyeliner pencil to fill in my brows, since my left eyebrow is thin. But only if I don’t have an eyebrow pencil.

Using

As with mascara, don’t pump the wand in and out for the same reasons. If your eyeliner tube is dried out, you can boil some water in a cup and place the closed tube into the cup. Wait about 2-3 minutes and it should be usable again.

Now unscrew the cap for the eyeliner. Bring the tip of the wand to your face, as close to your top lash line as possible. And then just gently brush it from one side to the other. I usually go from the inside of the eye to the outer side, using short strokes. Try to go for a winged look with the liner, it looks a lot better than just plain eyeliner. A winged look is just when there’s a “wing” of eyeliner that extends past the eye, curving slightly upward. If you’re going for a heavy makeup look, you can apply eyeliner to your bottom lid using the same method. And if you’re having trouble, check out the YouTube video below.

How To Choose Eyeshadow

Why Should I Use Eyeshadow?

Just as mascara does, eyeshadow also places more emphasis on your eyes. In doing so, you draw even more attention to them. Adding beautiful color gradients to your eyes also changes a person’s perception of your gender.

People just starting out with makeup should stick to the 3 color drugstore eyeshadow kits. I love those, because they have easy to follow instructions included. It’s impossible to mess up the look you’re going for, that way. I usually go for a smoky eye look, since it pairs well with almost any outfit.

But you could find other eyeshadow looks that look good with your outfit. In this case, Google is our friend here. You can search “how to match eyeshadow to [COLOR]”, COLOR being the main color of your outfit.

Eyeshadow is a huge part of doing your makeup, because of how much of your eye it covers. Because of this, you should practice applying eyeshadow frequently. Don’t get frustrated if you mess up applying it the first few times. Even I messed up the simple drugstore kits my first few times. You’ll get better with practice, I promise!

How To Choose And Use Mascara

Why Should I Use Mascara?

Mascara is a variety of black pigments mixed with chemicals that allow it to adhere to your eyebrows. It’s used to lengthen and thicken your eyelashes, drawing more attention to your eyes. In doing so, it feminizes your face like the rest of your eye makeup.

Choosing

Mascara that is not waterproof. It helps feminize transgender women and MtF crossdressers by darkening their eyelashes, making them look longer, and giving them more of a curl. Waterproof mascara. Now with the added benefit of it not streaking if it rains!

Any mascara will work, to be honest. They all do the same thing, so I look for cheaper products. I go with one that isn’t water resistant for easy removal, since I don’t often leave the house dressed up. If you plan on going outside, go with a waterproof mascara. You’ll thank me for it when it rains. You can read more about the differences between mascara on Lifehacker.

Using

To use mascara, simply unscrew the tube and take the wand out. Then just swipe upward from the base of the top eyelashes, and downward from the base of the bottom eyelashes. When opening your mascara tube, don’t pump the brush in and out. It pushes air into the tube, causing the product to dry out and clump. It also introduces airborne bacteria into the tube, which can cause eye infections.
